Throughout the hospice we have aimed to create as many connections with nature and wildlife as possible. All of the in-patient bedrooms have been designed to have a view of the garden spaces and so patients can see tree lines wherever possible. Our Wellbeing Centre and the Garden café both open up onto garden spaces, which are all maintained by our garden volunteers.

The Hospice has three garden spaces:

  • The Retreat Garden: to the front of the hospice next to its café
  • The Wild Wood Garden: to the rear of the building
  • The Encircling Garden: follows the perimeter of the hospice’s grounds.

We are very honoured to have had our garden spaces designed by Charlotte Harris, who won Gold at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2017. She is a Landscape Designer and the founder and co-owner of Harris Bugg Studios with Hugo Bugg. They are two of the UK’s most exciting designers to emerge in recent years. Charlotte has designed and is advising on the landscaping and planting and she led the planting on the Retreat Garden with Willerby’s Landscapers and the hospice’s garden volunteers.
