Consultant in Palliative Medicine (Hospice / Acute Trust)

Clinical Colleague

A successful Consultant in Palliative Medicine will be:

  • To provide Consultant medical care at both St Peter’s Hospital and the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
  • To meet with the family/carers of patients, when required, to ensure their needs are met
  • To provide clinical supervision to the specialty registrar, specialty doctor, Foundation Year trainee, GP registrar (if in post), visiting doctors and other clinical staff e.g., CNS team undertaking supplementary prescribing courses
  • To be involved in the development, where appropriate, of all the clinical services with close liaison with the Director of Clinical services and Medical Director
  • To play their part in delivering a holistic approach to patient centred care which is of an excellent standard and meets the need of the individual patient
  • To work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • To maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessment and treatment in the patient’s records, and where appropriate update the clinical database.
  • The post is for minimum of 6 sessions and the post holder will be involved in education, training, and research.

This post has arisen as a result of an expansion of collaboration between the Hospice and Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Hospitals Trust (A&SPH). The post holder will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary specialist palliative care team providing clinical support at both A&SPH and within the Hospice (Inpatient Unit and Community).

A successful candidate will have:

  • Basic medical qualification, e.g. MBBS. Post Graduate qualifications: MRCP (UK) or other recognized post graduate qualification for specialist training in Palliative Medicine.
  • Diploma or MSc in Pall Med
  • Demonstrates excellent ability in written/ spoken English communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate to situation.
  • Strong team and leadership skills
  • Organizational skills / time management
  • Good I.T skills; PowerPoint
  • UK Registration
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous, but not limiting in this position.
