Dr. Jan Whitby

Jan has been a Woking & Sam Beare Hospice Trustee since May 2022.

She has a degree in Medical Microbiology and a PhD in Molecular Virology and is a Senior Molecular Virologist / Medical Microbiologist with extensive expertise in infections and infection control. Her clinical expertise has been gained from many years of active involvement in the NHS, research and research funding, where she has provided a very sound understanding of current medical and clinical challenges. Jan is an extremely experienced team leader and is a strategic and analytical thinker, with proven management, organisational and influencing skills.

Jan is currently a Trustee on the Board of the Fountain Centre, which is a cancer charity at St. Luke’s Cancer Centre (Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust ([RSFT]) that supports cancer patients through treatment.  She is also a Governor at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  This, combined with her five years as Lead and Co-ordinating Governor at RSFT (12 years as a Public Governor), Chair of the National Lead Governors’ Association and former Director of the Foundation Trust Governors’ Association, means she joins the Hospice’s Board of Trustees with significant Board, Committee, Steering Group and Leadership level experience.

She is married with two daughters and has lived in Woking for over 40 years.
